Hatcha hosts 50-hour stream for Mental Health

Hatcha, Skream, Heartless Crew and more join 50-hour, non-stop fundraising stream for Mental Health Awareness Week 2021.

Phase Transition and Heritage London are proud to present a 50-hour journey through UK sound system culture. Showcasing the foundations of UK Garage, Dubstep, Grime and Drum and Bass this promises to be the biggest collective of UK originators ever assembled.

Streaming from Friday 14th May to Monday 17th May to mark Mental Health Awareness Week 2021, the event will raise money for the mental health charity Mind. Money raised from donations to the stream will be given to this inspirational organisation which has been so important in helping artists and others through this difficult time.

Deck duties for the first 24 hours will be handled by none other than DJ Hatcha. The original Dubstep DJ has been digging through his acetates from back in the day and is ready to embark on a 100% vinyl only marathon session. Hatcha will retrace the foundations of the revolutionary sound that exploded out of Croydon in the early ‘00s and rapidly became a dominant force in global dance music. MCs Crazy D and Sergeant Pokes will join Hatcha for the first 24 hours.

For the final 26-hour stretch, Hatcha’s invited a who’s who of artists that have inspired and supported him over his 25-year career. The stream will host some of the true originators; artists who’ve been instrumental in establishing some of the key genres in UK underground dance music including, but definitely not limited to, Benny Ill, El-B, Juiceman, Skream, Youngsta, Slimzee, Killa-P, Logan Sama, Flowdan, Jamakabi, Plastician b2b Tubby, Matt 'Jam’ Lamont, Martin Larner, Cartier, Grooverider and the mighty DJ Hype.

Phase Transition and Heritage London hope to inspire a new generation of artists to continue pushing the sound and culture forward while supporting Mental Health Awareness Week 2021

The stream will be streamed globally on twitch, youtube and facebook and broadcast live on Trickstar Radio in Brighton and surrounding areas - https://trickstarradio.com/

Hatcha:

"Music in 2021 is so exciting, but sometimes you've got to take it back to your roots. I've been going through my dubplates for the past few months, pulling out some gems from my FWD>> residency and the years running up to it. I'll be covering all the bases over 24 hours. Setting the foundation of UK Garage, then moving into the tribal sounds that we slowly developed into Dubstep. I'm honoured to be joined by a bunch of good friends and artists I have a huge amount of love and respect for and including my wife, Sam Divine, who tells me she's preparing something very special for the occasion. It's been a tough year for everyone in the community, so it's important for all of us to give something back. Mind have done an amazing job helping keep people (including some of our artists) healthy and happy over the past 12 months. We're delighted to be able to raise some money for them."

Rubin from Phase Transition:

"Our purpose is to represent the past, present and future of UK soundsystem culture. So it's a dream come true to be working with some of the originators of four of the most important underground movements in UK musical history - UK Garage, Dubstep, Grime and Drum and Bass. These are people Hatcha has admired, learnt from and collaborated with over the course of his 20 plus year career. Artists who've been instrumental in establishing the UK as a dominant global force in underground culture. As someone who's struggled with mental health issues, it's amazing to have the opportunity to raise money for Mind. It's really the least we can do during this difficult time."

Sam Divine:

"It's been amazing to watch Terry going through all his old music over the past few months pulling out some gems for the stream. But as much as I can't wait to hear the music, I'm also looking forward to reconnecting with all of our old friends."
